the uk based label will offer up several releases throughout 2018 and yama music 001 perfectly sets the tone of what’s to follow. taking the lead here is ‘margaret made me do it’ which lays down woozy synth tones and modulating glitches alongside a snaking sub bass groove, shuffled minimalistic percussion and an amalgamation of contemplative spoken word vocal cuts to create a tripped-out opening to the record. ‘ddderlooon party’ follows and retains a similar aesthetic with swinging drums and ethereal atmospherics at its core whilst hypnotic, billowing synths ebb and flow dynamically across the composition, again creating something raw yet refined. then lastly to round out the package ‘moon boots’ tips the focus over to a more straight percussive groove and stirs in vacillating low-end pulses, murky, evolving stabs and mind-bending electronic blips.

jerome derradji received a call by one of chicago’s most renowned record dealer. it went like this: hey jerome, ive got all these reel to reel tapes of chicago house stuff. you want to take a look? less than 24 hours later, more than 160 reels were purchased and safely hauled back to the still music office and jerome got to work. in fact, these reels - that were lost for more than 20 years - contain some incredible stuff that we’ll be releasing in the years to come but right now it’s time to jack! around 50 of these tapes are dj mixes that were broadcasted on wgci and wbmx in the mid to late eighties mostly with the hot mix 5. so jerome decided to start a series of cassettes titled jack to share the absolute greatness of these mixes (and to raise enough funds to finance the transfer and licensing of the more crazy stuff that’s in the stack of reels) here is our first series with mixes from frankie knuckles, steve “silk” hurley, chicago mystery - devastating daryl and a few unknown mixes that were too essential to skip. these mixes were played on the radio only once and were lost until today. this series is an absolute window back to the heydays of chicago house music. all the mixes were professionally transferred and remastered to the best of our abilities.

89:ghost is on fire at present, having thrown down killer releases from todd sines, logic system and tomoki tamura over the past year. tommy vicari jnr is a great addition to the roster, bringing a freaky, wobbly and distinctly hi tech approach on all that matters that will have party people freaking out in a whole new way. things at night takes a completely different approach with its focus on delicately chopped up piano hooks. tlk 2 me wt yr bdy flips the script yet again with a roughneck, ardcore sound palette and some filtered house elements riding atop a booming low end. likely story finishes this varied ep off with a cheeky garage house strut that will have just as many fans as the other killer jams on this well rounded record.

as the lead singer of george darko s legendary burger-highlife hit-band, lee dodou became the number one voice of 80 s highlife. born in kumasi, the epicenter of ghanaian highlife, he came to berlin in the late 70 s - by then the uprising epicenter of burger-highlife - to work as a back-up-singer for pat thomas. after joining and leaving georg darko and running his own band -kantata-, he stopped releasing music in the early 90 s. now, philophon is proud to present new recordings of his soulful genius to the world of 2018. basa basa is a song in the classic -concert party- style, as it was played in the glorious 60 s. after a firey horn introduction lee takes over in that funny and entertaining manner typical for -concert party- music. buzz duncker joins lee s phrases with some gentle clarinet. highlife at its best! sahara akwantuo is anything but a classic: it s the start of a kind of philophonic highlife, labeled as kraut-life. ghanaian love of life meets german romantic melancholy. happy rhythms meet mysterious synth landscapes. eternal summertime and mangos are meeting a wet winter world and roast apples. kraut-life at its best!

terje saether and robert solheim met at a party they both played at, clicked and started playing together. this soon lead to this, their first collaboration. dinky, of norway and fredrik bekkaasen loved the project and was happy to contribute with their remixes. this is the result, the ep tres hermanas . the fourth sister, dolores, disappeared along the way, but will hopefully return for the digital release. finally the four hermanas will be reunited.

out of nowhere, here comes villee with his debut ep chock full of dancefloor gems. from the very first listen we knew we had something special that we needed to release on pressed for time. its a difficult thing to reference classic tracks and artists without sounding like a carbon copy however villee manages this with aplomb. referencing larry heard (check the chords on the inventor), cajual records, french house and the diy free party sound - we think this ep is fantastic! think warm, analogue, looped up, mpc house with swing and you re on the right track
